a major source of heavy metals

Can heavy metals cause autism? I recently encountered a delightful woman at a hotel pool in Scottsdale, Arizona. I quickly learned that she is an ND (doctor of naturopathy) in Maui. An ND aims to heal the root cause of an illness or condition, not just treat the symptoms with medications, as traditional doctors are trained to do. https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/what-is-naturopathic-medicine

After mentioning my son Luke, our conversation quickly turned to heavy metals and autism. I posed the question to the doctor, “Can heavy metals cause autism?”

The doctor’s answer was an unequivocal, “Yes!”

The doctor went on to explain that our bodies are inundated with heavy metals in the air we breathe, the dental amalgams in our mouths, the antiperspirants we wear, the foods we eat, the cookware we cook with, the personal care products we put on our bodies and the vaccines we are injected with. She further stated that many people with autism lack the detoxification pathways that are crucial in removing heavy metals from the body. Instead, the heavy metals are stored in the soft tissues such as the brain, where they can cause some of the characteristics seen with autism, such as stereotypical behaviors (hand-flapping, toe-walking, lining up toys, aversion to change), impaired social skills, impaired speech, depression, anxiety and aggression.

I’ve written an article explaining heavy metals toxicity and autism. Heavy Metals Detoxification May Reduce or Eliminate Autistic Behaviors

The doctor outlined a care plan for diagnosing heavy metals toxicity and safely removing them from the body:

  • find a qualified doctor who specializes in detoxifying heavy metals
  • use a provocative agent to test for heavy metals. such as a DMSA challenge. In her opinion, hair analysis and blood tests do not show the true burden of heavy metals in the body.
  • test for parasites and Lyme’s disease. This doctor has seen in her practice where parasites and Lyme’s disease mimic some of the characteristics of autism
  • a detoxifying agent such as zeolite clinoptilolite or bentonite clay works to pull heavy metals from the soft tissues and eliminate them from the body She steered me towards http://cellcore.com for detoxifying agents and supplements.
  • a binder such as activated charcoal or caprylic acid can absorb some of the toxins from heavy metals detoxification, reducing the side effects (Herxheimer reaction) of detoxification.
  • detox after each vaccine administration. Most of the mercury has been removed from vaccines unless the vaccine comes from a multi-dose bottle, which contains thimerosal, which is a mercury-based preservative. Most vaccines also contain aluminum, which act as an adjuvant, making the vaccine work.
  • avoid antiperspirants, aluminum cookware, most seafood, dental amalgams, many cosmetic products and filter all water.

Can heavy metals cause autism?

My son Luke was born with autistic behaviors. His twin did not survive their births. The doctors were stumped as to what happened to my babies, and at the age of three, slapped an autism label on Luke after my vehement declaration that it was something medical. I didn’t find out what was really wrong with Luke until a light went off in my head while staring at our old well when Luke was seven. I took him to an environmental doctor who declared, “He’s not autistic, he’s toxic!”

Hence, the title of my book, Autistic or Toxic?

Luke is now an adult and living independently in his own apartment and gainfully employed. Is he perfect? Not even close. He still struggles with social speech, and has lingering damage to some of his organs due to the heavy metals. If I had only known when Luke was born what to look for, then I could have gotten him treated for heavy metals at a much younger age, for a better prognosis. That’s why I wrote Autistic or Toxic?…to help other families get their child treated for heavy metals at a younger age, to better prepare them for life as an independent adult.

But Luke’s happy, healthy and a contributing member of society. And isn’t that what we wish for all our kids, autistic or not?
